CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – A perfect trip won the night as Sweet Molly threaded the needle late to capture the $4,450 Race 10 feature Thursday at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Brodie MacPhee engineered the winning pocket ride for trainer David Dowling, angling Sweet Molly ($12.60) to victory in deep stretch to nail pacesetter Get Answers (Driven by Marc Campbell) on the line in 1:57.3 over a good track rated three-seconds off. The three-year-old sensation Badgirl Bridgette (Jason Hughes) rallied for third after sitting last in the field. Clair Murphy co-owns Sweet Molly with Dowling, Cindy MacLean and Derrill Murphy.
Earlier on the card, the Open Trot in race 6 was all Fight Song ($2.10) as the Ashley Gamester trainee and driver Hughes set the table and cleared off by six-lengths in 2:01.2 for owner Donald MacRae, with Whole Nother (Colin Sheppard) second and Hallofaride (Ryan Desroche) third.
The night opened with Moon Bound ($3.30) and driver Ken Murphy front-ending in 2:02 for trainer Jennifer Doyle in Race 1 then the duo reunited to win with Lady Devine ($11.30) in 1:58.3 in race 8. Murphy also scored with Camco Laraido ($6.60) in race 3 for trainer Mario Macri as part of a driving triple.
