CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Open trot renews Thursday evening program at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 13-dash card gets underway at 6 P.M. with the $4,200 Open trot in Race 9.
Buckhead Ridge is the top choice on the morning line at 5-2 odds from post 5 with Marc Campbell at the controls for trainer Landon Campbell and owner Brady Doyle of Stratford. The son of Nuncio has been a towering force in the Open trotting ranks this season with 13 wins and looms the one to beat despite drawing the outside.
Fight Song (To be driven by Jason Hughes) is second choice from post 4. The Ashley Gamester trainee was second to Buckhead Ridge in his last two tries.
Desert Hayz has post 3 as the 7-2 third choice for trainer Jay Noye with driver Gilles Barrieau looking to add to her six on-the-board finishes in her last seven starts.
Rocket Blast lands rail control for driver-trainer Corey MacPherson at 4-1 odds after turning in sharp recent efforts against the top trotters. Glider Man holds down post 2 with David Dowling in the seat for trainer Jennifer Doyle.
The Post Time Picks go with Buckhead Ridge.
“To say Buckhead Ridge is sharp may be an understatement considering he’s won two straight and closed in 28 and change both times. He also has an incredible 13 wins from 18 starts this year and this is a great partnership so there’s a strong chance he hits the wire first.”
The $4,450 Race 12 pacing feature for fillies and mares has Ayvanna pegged as the 5-2 favourite from post 2 for trainer Bo Ford and driver Gilles Barrieau. The Roll With Joe mare has scored fives wins and a second from post six starts and now looks to return to the winner’s circle. Sugar Bowl has post 4 at 3-1 odds for trainer Jeff Holmes with Brady Sweet handling the lines after consecutive on-the-board finishes at this level, while Miss Dutton (Paul Langille) is a top entry with rail control for trainer Chris MacKay.
The Post Time Picks side with Sugar Bowl.
“Sugar Bowl was storming on the end of it last out and was oh so close to winning. We’re wagering Sweet will have her well placed early and with the way she can fly home this could be the day she returns to her winning ways.”
Fans can take in the action live at the capital oval or watch the Race Day broadcast at Redshores.ca. Wagering is available online through HPIBET.com.
