Bee Two Bee Defends Campbell Memorial Crown

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The Saturday evening half of the P.E.I. Colt Stakes doubleheader at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park closed with Bee Two Bee extending his dominance in the Reliable Motors – Richard Campbell Memorial Pace.

The marquee clash came in Race 14, and Bee Two Bee sat close before blasting home to nail down the $9,000 Richard Campbell Memorial in 1:53.1 with Jason Hughes in the bike for trainer Ashley Gamester. Twin B Tuffenuff (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) was first-over but had to settle for second with Nuttin But Finesse (Mike Downey) closing for third. Bee Two Bee ($9.80) is co-owned by Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown. It was the third straight win in this event for Bee Two Bee after triumphs in 2023 and 2024.

The $18,500 Gold divisions for three-year-old pacing colts produced a mix of favourites and fireworks.

Race 5 Gold division action saw Barrieau–McIsaac champion One Wicked Man rally from the backfield to win in 1:55.3 for trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault, up on Moonfall (Brodie MacPhee) and Evil Lou (Corey MacPherson). One Wicked Man ($4.60) is owned by James Perrot of Stratford.

Race 10 had Bentley take charge early and deliver Gold in 1:56.2 for trainer John Clarey and driver Paul Langille. DJ Mustang (Marc Campbell) was second and Like A King (David Dowling) third. Bentley ($4.70) is owned and bred by Mike Clarey of Montague.

Then in Race 13, Dusty Lane Levi shocked the crowd with a pocket-trip score in 1:55 for trainer Greg Weatherbee and driver Hughes, upsetting Phil My Beer (Campbell) and odds-on Malevolent (Langille). Dusty Lane Levi ($38.90) is owned by Tammy and Kathy Johnston of Ten Mile House.

The three-year-old pacing fillies also battled in three $20,250 Gold divisions.

Lady Llamrei struck first in Race 2, closing strong to prevail in 1:55.1 for trainer-driver Adam Merner and owner Marsha Knox of Stanhope. Jafetica (Myles Heffernan Sr.) was second with Elm Grove Talia (David Dowling) third. Lady Llamrei returned $25.20 to win  

Badgirl Bridgette (Hughes) extended her stakes dominance in Race 6, fronting the field in 1:54.3 for owner-trainer William Lanigan. My Happy Place (Barrieau) was runner-up while Steady Heart (Campbell) finished third. Badgirl Bridgette paid $3.00.

Tobins Dream lit up Race 8, kicking clear to win in 1:55.4 with MacPherson for trainer Kevin MacLean and owner Reg MacPherson. Lorne Valley Liv (Myles Heffernan Sr.) was placed second with Isle Bea Wickedwon (Barrieau) placed third. Tobins Dream rewarded backers at $14.70.

Grassroots splits for $10,125 for three-year-old pacing fillies saw victories by Pop The Pin ($4.50) who went all the way in 1:56.4 for Hughes and trainer Gamester and Molly Malone ($52.00) delivering the upset in 1:58 for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Fred Paynter.

The $9,250 Grassroots divisions for three-year-old pacing colts went to Redeyetoshanghai ($3.60) in 1:57.2 for trainer Wade Myers and driver Marc Campbell, Cheezwiz ($9.00) pocket-popping in 1:56.2 with Murphy for trainer Clifford Murphy, and The Tulsa King ($5.00) in 1:55.3 with Corey MacPherson for trainer Mike McGuigan.

The Atlantic Aged Mares Series, presented by Standardbred Canada,  for $5,000 highlighted the distaffers. Miss Dutton ($6.00) was a 1:55.2 winner for driver Paul Langille and trainer Chris MacKay, while Avyanna ($2.80) scored in 1:54.1 for Barrieau and trainer Bo Ford.
