Wind Blown Headlines Preferred Pace; Starship Beauty Streaking

By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores

SUMMERSIDE, PE – The Tuesday evening program at Red Shores Summerside Raceway will feature a trio of storylines: a Preferred pace led by a Central Canadian veteran, a wide-open late class event, and one of the hottest mares on the East Coast.

First race post time is 6 P.M. for the 14-dash card.

The $5,000 Preferred 2 pace takes centre stage in race 7 with Wind Blown (To be driven by Paul Langille) making his second Summerside return after tangling with Canada’s best all summer on the Woodbine Mohawk Park circuit. The $374,000 winner leaves from post 2 for trainer Phil Sizer and the ownership group of Douglas Polley Jr., and Doug Polley Sr. Wind Blown was a confident winner in 1:54.1 last time out in Summerside. Mantario (David Dowling) lines up on the rail after a string of top-three finishes while House Edge Hanover (Brodie MacPhee) is in from the Charlottetown based Ron Matheson stable with post 3. Sauble Attack (Ken Murphy) gets respect from post 4 and last week’s top class winner Starship Glyde (Adam Merner) holds down post 5.

The Backstretch Beat goes with Wind Blown to win.

“A proven class performer with plenty of back class, this veteran has been mixing it up with much tougher company all summer. His versatility allows him to race either up front or from off the pace, and with a softer spot here, he should be right in the thick of things. If Langille can secure good early position, he’s the one they’ll have to reel in.”

The late card feature is race 13 with a $3,900 purse and a compact but contentious group of six pacers. Watchmaker (Mike Downey) was a winner in 1:57.2 in his latest and has rail control from post 1. Doc Awesome (Adam Merner) has been a consistent threat all summer and is back with post 2 for trainer Darla MacEachern, while Braxtons Boy was a winner in 1:56.3 in his latest to give former Exhibition Park Raceway leading driver John Davidson his first win of 2025. Howmac Charmer (Corey MacPherson) looms as another big factor from post 5, along with First Glance (Langille) and Rose Run X Con (Norris Rogers).

One of the evening’s streak stories comes in race 5 as Starship Beauty (Langille) attempts to notch her fourth straight win for trainer Kyle Williams of Coleman. The four-year-old daughter of Arthur Blue Chip has dominated this class in recent weeks and carries the 5-2 morning line favourite status as she tries to continue her roll from post 6.

Race 9 is the Happy retirement Plain Jane pace. Plaine Jane began her racing career winning her debut at Summerside and recorded her final victory in the Ruby Chappell Memorial final at Summerside on Governor’s Plate night.  The homebred of Leigh Gavin, Tignish, PE, will be trackside to greet the winner in victory lane.  McLand is listed as the morning line favorite for trainer Chris Davies and driver David Dowling.
