CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – The delayed Wednesday night feature produced a mild upset as Windemere Saddy collared favoured Sweet Molly in the dying strides of the Race 12 Fillies & Mares Preferred 1 Pace at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $4,650 top-class event saw Sweet Molly (Driven by David Dowling) protect the rail and control all the fractions, rolling through splits of 28, 57.3 and 1:28. Then Windemere Saddy ($8.80) and driver Marc Campbell came calling to prevail by a neck over a late closing Therealprincess (Gilles Barrieau) in 1:58.1 with Sweet Molly third.
The winning four-year-old mare is owned by Shane Esson, Saul Lanigan, Darcy Doyle and Isaac Schurman, with Lanigan handling the training duties.
In the $6,000 Joe & Steven MacRae Memorial Fall Series for pacing mares in race 2, Red Dirt Diamond ($6.00) completed a clean sweep of the series with a first-over victory in 2:03.4 for driver Brett Clow and owner-trainer Deanna Clow. Ubettimagoodone (Jaycob Sweet) and Elm Grove Nanci (Ken Murphy) completed the top trio.
The Open Trot in race 6 went to the division’s current heavyweight as Buckhead Ridge ($3.70) used a powerful move to the lead and refused to be denied. Campbell angled the Landon Campbell trainee first-over to the front past the opening quarter and put the issue to rest with a 2:00 score. New Legacy (David Dowling) was second while Fight Song (Jason Hughes) earned the show spot after cutting some of the early fractions. Driver Marc Campbell had three winners as he also won with the Landon Campbell trained Galway Girl ($3.00) in the race 13 finale.
Race 10 was staged as a PEISHOA event and saw Moon Bound ($12.70) spring a mild surprise as part of a training triple for Jennifer Doyle. Doyle also delivered with Shake N Blake ($3.40) in 1:59.4 in race 9 and Elm Grove Mistress ($3.80) with a 1:58.2 victory in race 7, all with Dowling at the reins.
Applepiemoonshine ($4.80) took a pocket ride to win race 3 in 2:01.4 during a Luke Burke training double as Elm Grove Penney ($2.90) won race 11 in 2:02, both with Paul Langille aboard.
