By Nicholas Oakes For Red Shores

CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Saturday night racing returns to Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park with 14 dashes scheduled to start at 6 P.M., featuring the Preferred pace in the evening finale.

The Preferred pace in race 14 carries a $5,000 purse and has Bee Two Bee established as the morning line favourite at 5-2. Jason Hughes has the lines on the Sunshine Beach gelding for trainer Ashley Gamester and owners Donald MacRae and Blair MacLauchlan. The eight-year-old was a recent third place finisher in the $100,000 Gold Cup and Saucer final on Aug. 16, and makes his first start back this week.

P.E.I. Colt Stakes Graduate Gold Series winner Malignity has post 6 for trainer-driver Paul Langille as the 7-2 third choice in the morning line.

Twin B Tuffenuff is the 3-1 second choice from post 8 for pilot Gilles Barrieau after a runner-up performance in the $30,000 James Roach MacGregor Gold Cup and Saucer consolation. Avatar J (To be driven by David Dowling) leaves from post 3 as a key contender. Also in the deep field are Navalny (Brady Sweet). Saulsbrook Ian (Ken Murphy), Impeccable Shadow (Corey MacPherson) and Roll Em (Ryan Desroche).

The Post Time Picks go with Bee Two Bee on top.

“Bee Two Bee makes his first start since that memorable third place finish in the Gold Cup and Saucer three weeks ago. He has incredible closing speed and he’s as versatile as they come, so he’s the one to beat in here.”

Earlier in the night, is the Southern Belle Pace – “The Cheese Biscuit Queen” in race 9 for a $2,650 purse. Leavin Bruises is favoured at 5-2 from post 5 with Brady Sweet in the bike for trainer Basil Hunter, who co-owns with Douglas Molyneaux. His rivals include Dylan Sam (Hughes), Dusty Lane Zoro (Don MacNeill) and Heres To Art (Murphy).
The program also includes National Caretakers Appreciation Day presented by Standardbred Canada, Red Shores, PEI Harness Racing Industry Association and P.E.I. Standardbred Horse Owner’s Association. Caretakers will be recognized with merchandise and prize draws for their contribution to our industry.
