SUMMERSIDE, PE – Starship Glyde stole the show on Labour Day Monday at Red Shores Summerside Raceway, taking the $5,000 Labour Day Pace feature in 1:55.4 for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Earl Watts.
The Windemere Farms-owned Starship Glyde ($9.00) sat up front and turned back pocket-sitter Sauble Attack (Driven by Ken Murphy) and Mantario (David Dowling) in the race 15 holiday headliner. The victory was one of three for trainer Watts while Marc Campbell had five winners in the race bike on the day.
Wind Blown ($4.20) returned back to P.E.I. with a 1:54.1 powerhouse victory in the $3,900 Graham Chappell Memorial in race 9 for trainer Phil Sizer and driver Paul Langille. Howmac Charmer (Corey MacPherson) was second with Doc Awesome (Adam Merner) completing the triactor.
The afternoon card overflowed with sponsored and memorial races celebrating Prince County’s harness racing heritage. Nolans Magic Shui ($2.10) and Paul Langille kicked off the day with a 1:58.3 win in the Henry–Philip–Marlene Doucette Memorial in race 1. Race 3 was the Garth Schurman Memorial, claimed by Its Model Time ($42.20) in 1:57.3 for trainer Blaine McKenna with Ken Murphy in the bike.
The John Stewart Memorial in race 4 went to Mr Harris ($3.70) in 2:00 for trainer Watts and driver Marc Campbell, while Onions Te Go ($3.80) struck in 2:00.3 in the Everett Stewart & Russell Quigley Memorial (Race 5) for trainer Jennifer Doyle and reinsman Dowling.
Race 6 saw Singers Choice ($2.20) dead-heating at the wire with Applepiemoonshine ($2.20) in 1:59.1 to take the Leon James Stewart Memorial. The Congratulations Brooke, Taylor & Bryce Pace in race 7 saw Silverhilllightnin ($6.50) open up to win in 2:00.2 for trainer Stacey Darrach and driver MacPherson.
Southwind Ricochet ($2.90) cruised in 1:57.1 for Marc Campbell and trainer Watts to capture the Cecil James Stewart Memorial in race 8. Acrobat Hanover ($3.60) wired the field in 1:56 in the Isabelle & Ivan Cameron Memorial (Race 10) for trainer Taylor Doyle with Marc Campbell aboard.
Race 11 was the Pins & Needles Junior, Shirley & Linda Chappell Memorial, won decisively by Rock N Roll Cays ($2.60) in 1:56.1 for trainer Chris Mackay and driver MacPherson. Mappo Oriley ($2.50) held firm in the Bob MacInnis Memorial (Race 12), stopping the clock in 1:55.4 to double up trainer Doyle, again with Marc Campbell driving.
The Dick Walsh Memorial in race 13 saw Braxtons Boy ($19.30) deliver an upset in 1:56.3 for trainer Ricky Armstrong and driver John Davidson Sr., while Howmac Exclusive ($2.60) rolled in the Frank Banks Memorial (Race 14) with a 1:56.4 score for trainer Les Waite and pilot MacPherson.
After Starship Glyde’s feature victory in race 15, the holiday finale was captured by Howmac Maximus ($9.50), who stopped the clock in 1:57.3 for trainer Tammy Collings and driver Ryan Desroche in the closing dash.
