CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – Bee Two Bee reminded everyone exactly why he is on top of the hill right now, delivering another powerhouse performance in the Preferred 1 Pace on a busy Saturday afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The $5,500 top class in Race 15 saw Bee Two Bee ($3.30) and Jason Hughes control things from the word go, fronting the compact field through splits of 28.1, 56.4 and 1:25.2. The Sunshine Beach stallion kicked home in 27.1 to stop the clock in 1:52.3, fending off pocket-sitter House Edge Hanover (Driven by Gilles Barrieau) by a length-and-a-half with Phil My Beer (Marc Campbell) rallying up for third. Bee Two Bee is trained by Ashley Gamester for owners Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge and Blair MacLauchlan of Charlottetown.
The Joe & Steven MacRae Memorial Fall Series took up a big share of the spotlight with three first-leg divisions for horses racing under specific 2025 earning caps.
The opening $3,000 split in Race 2 went to Buddysnvirgins ($5.10) and Barrieau who sat the pocket to deliver by four and a half lengths in 1:57.4. Windsong Quincy (Marc Campbell) rallied up for second while Century Invictus (Norris Rogers) held third. Buddysnvirgins is trained by Darrell Neill for co-owner Ryan Neill.
Power Of Four ($10.70) took the first $3,500 MacRae division in Race 6 with a pillar-to-post steering job from reinsman Ryan Desroche and owner-trainer Irwin Neill. The seven-year-old son of Sunshine Beach cut splits of 28.2, 57.3 and 1:27.1, then dug in late to hold off a charging Five Star Dragon (Adam Merner) by a nose at the finish in 1:58 flat. Doc Darryl (Colin Sheppard) sat close throughout and rounded out the triactor.
The other $3,500 MacRae leg in Race 9 saw Phil Dorleans deliver a front-end masterpiece for trainer-driver Merner and owners Kent Williams of Ellerslie and Lyndon Hardy of Coleman. Leaving sharply from post 3, the veteran Shanghai Phil gelding rolled through 28.2, 57.1 and 1:27.1 before kicking away by six and three-quarter lengths in 1:57.1. Spack Jarrow (Hughes) closed up for second while Im Hungry (Paul Langille) completed the triactor.
Barrieau tripled on the day as he also won the Preferred 2 Pace in Race 4 with TH Boomtown ($4.50) in 1:54.4 for trainer Ron Matheson and owners Dr. Don Ling and Wayne MacDougall of Stratford. Doc Awesome (MacPherson) and Pendleton Rodeo (Merner) completed the top trio. Ikes Dream ($2.10) was another Barrieau winner in 1:55 from the Trevin Shive’s barn of Nova Scotia with the Bettors Delight five-year-old fronting the field from start to finish in race 12 for owner Jim Shive.
The PEISHOA event in race 7 saw Geishas Treasure ($4.90) and Marc Campbell control every step of a 1:55.2 victory for trainer Brendan Mullen and owner Blaize Rogerson.
Earlier in the afternoon it was a perfect beginning for promising rookie Th Spikey Mikey ($2.10), who converted heavy pari-mutuel support into a sharp 1:58.4 victory in Race 1 to remain undefeated in two tries for driver-trainer Corey MacPherson and owners Peter and Ian Smith and Gerald Morrissey. MacPherson doubled from his barn as Evil Vintage ($12.90) swept up to win race 3 in 1:57.1 for owner Sandra Stead.
MacPherson also tripled in the race bike as High Praise ($3.60) won again with a race 8 victory in 1:55.2 for trainer Jennifer Doyle and owner Ian McKinnon, collaring pacesetter Shadows Terror (Merner) in deep stretch.
